About the city
Beziers is a town in Languedoc, in the southwest of France. The town is a sub-prefecture in the Herault department, with a population around 70,000. With its population, Beziers is the second largest town in the department of Herault and the fourth of the region Languedoc-Roussillon.
The town is located on a small bluff above the river Orb, about 10 km from the Mediterranean Sea. At Beziers the Canal du Midi spans the river Orb as an aqueduct called the canal bridge claimed to be the first of its kind. Beziers is also located 50 km from the moderately high mountains of Haute Languedoc.
