City areas
Less than half the municipal area is urbanized, the rest of the territory consists of green spaces, protected natural areas and agricultural areas mainly planted with vines. These areas make about 2,000 hectares from the 9,548 hectares span of the city.
Pont Vieux
This magnificent bridge has been one of the iconic images of the city of Beziers since it was first constructed in 1134. The wonderful series of arches dig deep into the bed of the River Orb and although there have been some minor alterations throughout the centuries, today’s bridge is the original structure, standing strong, regardless of what nature or man has thrown at it throughout the centuries.
Plateau des Poetes
Beautifully landscaped to give a place of calm and tranquility at the center of the city, the gardens are a popular place for local people and visitors to meet in Beziers. The gardens have been planted in such a way as to maximize the potential for color and smell through the seasons.
Jardin des Eveques
A truly French style garden, this beautiful little hideaway was apparently in the past a popular place for those of the church to get away from the city and contemplate alone, surrounded by pastoral splendor. Intricately laid out the gardens are almost like a maze of small hedgerows and flowerbeds that sweep in circular patters forming a unique and very quiet place to visit if you are in the cathedral area.
